Barbara is a volunteer for Home-Start Blackmore Vale. Barbara has been a volunteer for 15 years. It is easy to see fifteen years as simply a number but in fact it is so, so much more. Fifteen years of showing up when she said she would. Fifteen years of listening. Fifteen years of helping young children get the best possible start in life. Fifteen years of helping families feel supported, valued, and understood.

In those fifteen years Barbara has been so much more than a volunteer. She has been a reassuring presence, a friendly face, a source of strength, often a beacon of hope and a true Trailblazer in the development of the service we offer today. Through her consistent support for parents, babies, toddlers, and young children, she has helped create safe, welcoming spaces where families have grown and thrived together.

Anyone who works with young children knows that the early years are the most important years of all. The support, encouragement, and positive experiences children receive during this time shape their confidence, wellbeing, and future opportunities. Whether it was comforting a nervous parent attending a group for the first time, encouraging a child to join in an activity, sharing a smile with a toddler, or simply offering a listening ear on a difficult day, Barbara has consistently shown kindness, patience, and understanding. These moments may seem small, but they have a lasting impact.
The families who have benefited from Barbara’s support may not remember every visit, activity or conversation, but they will remember how they felt. They will remember feeling understood instead of judged. They will remember feeling belonging instead of alone. They will remember seeing their children grow in confidence, make friends, learn new skills, and enjoy new experiences, especially the joys of parenthood and family life.

Volunteering is often described as giving something back, but what Barbara has given goes far beyond that. She has helped build stronger families, stronger communities, and brighter futures for young children. She has contributed to creating an environment where parents feel supported and where children are encouraged to learn, play, explore, and flourish.

Behind every successful organisation are people like Barbara who quietly work in the background, often without seeking recognition or praise. People who give because they can and they care. People who understand that a warm welcome, a kind word, or a helping hand can make all the difference. These are the moments that leave a lasting legacy.
Barbara your dedication has touched countless lives. Your kindness has strengthened families. Your encouragement has helped young children develop confidence and curiosity. We may be able to measure a lot of the differences we have made but what we cannot measure is the legacy we have created for parents and their children.

So, on behalf of all the families you have supported, all the children you have helped have the best start in life, all the staff and volunteers you have worked with, and everyone whose lives have been made better through your tireless commitment and generosity, thank you.

Thank you Barbara for fifteen years of outstanding service and commitment to supporting families in our community.
